Windy is a beautiful sweet doxie who, unfortunately, has spent most of her 3 years in a nursing facility with her owner. The lady’s family gave her a puppy just as she was moving from her home into a nursing facility. Definitely not a good idea. This was not the best life for a young dog, but the lady refused to give her up because she loved her. Friends and family tried for over a year when I was originally contacted and asked to take her. Of course, I said yes. But time after time the lady said she wouldn’t let her go. But the time came when the lady was being moved into a hospice facility, and she finally relented and allowed rescue to find her a new home.
Since Windy has been in a foster home she has had the opportunity to live with other dogs. She immediately bonded with the senior doxie who has a very low activity level. The puppy in the home has been very patient with Windy trying to get her to play. Playing with another dog is new to Windy so it took a bit of time to understand “play with me”. Since Windy has never gone on real walks, she thoroughly enjoys them and gets excited when the harness comes out. The outside world is all new to her and she’s learning to enjoy it. She learned the doggie door quickly and will potty outside but does not like being outside alone. She will also use pee pads.
Foster mom has discovered Windy has some separation anxiety and she whines when people are out of sight. It’s understandable since she basically lived in small quarters where her person was always in sight.
Windy will do well as an only dog or with another small friendly dog. Windy is a bit of a stocky girl and could stand to lose 2 or 3 lbs. Due to lack of exercise and probably over fed, she is a bit fluffy. She loves toys and is just figuring out what they are and they can be fun. She is a very loving dog and wants lots of attention.
Windy is spayed but we have not been able to locate her shot records so shots and micro chip will be done prior to adoption. She would not do well in a home where she’s left alone for long hours while someone works. A home with a yard is preferred since she can be a barker when left alone.
