SPECIAL NEEDS! Maggie is a beautiful, sweet girl; however, she is fearful of people. Maggie came with a large group of dogs from a breeder where the dogs were not socialized, just left in filth to breed. She was never given the time or attention to interact in a positive way with people and whoever did interact with her, it was not in a positive way. The foster discovered Maggie is exceptionally fearful of women with long dark hair. She starts shaking if she sees a woman like that. Maggie needs a very special home with an experienced home that is willing to give her the time and patience she needs to come around and it may take a long time. She is not ready to be a lap dog.
Maggie enjoys the company of other dogs and plays with the dogs in the foster home. Maggie needs a home with other dogs and would not be happy in a home as an only dog. She’s much more comfortable around dogs than people, even a Husky that she follows around. Sometimes she even plays with toys and acts silly. But if approached by a person, she will run away. She has made some improvements in the month she’s been in foster care but she has a long way to go.
Maggie would not do well in a home with toddlers or young children. Only older children that can understand her issues would work for her.
We were told Maggie was 3 years old. She may be, but the foster mom feels she may be younger since she has a lot of puppy behaviors.
Maggie is improving with her housebreaking. She uses pee pads more now than she did before. She always poops outside. She still needs work on her housebreaking and scolding her will only send her back to being fearful of people. She has never been walked on a leash and freaked out the first time they tried to walk her.
Maggie needs a home with a family who understands her fears and gives her the time to come around on her own. It will probably take a while.
