Fudge

Color:  Dark Red
Coat:  Smooth
Age: 4 years
Sex:  Male (neutered)
Size:  17 pounds

This very sweet boy is Fudge, named by the shelter he was sprung from.  We don’t know why Fudge ended up in the shelter.  Perhaps his owner passed away but we were happy to save this boy.

The shelter said he is 9 years old but I think they based that on his poor physical condition.  Fudge had a recent dental and did not lose any teeth which tells me he’s probably younger than 9 and his poor condition made him look older.  He was underweight and dehydrated.  He has a great appetite, and we are sure he will put on some pounds soon. He’s already looking better.  Fudge had a sore on his nose which may indicate he was crated and rubbed his nose on the crate.  With good food and supplements his condition will improve.  But with everything he’s been through he’s still a sweet lovable affectionate boy who loves to snuggle on a lap.

Fudge is definitely a one-person dog and should probably live in a home with just one person.  He is very protective of his person (resource guarding) and will challenge your partner and kids while protecting you.  When someone comes to visit, it is best to introduce him slowly, on a leash, in a neutral territory, like out on the street, for example.

The good news is that once introduced and given a chance to relax, he is happy to be friends.  When company comes to stay for several days, and within an hour he was happy to hang out on their laps.

Fudge is great with other small to medium sized dogs, happy to play endlessly.  He shares my lap with my Doxie.  He was a little worried about a large collie, but the worst he did was to stand and bark at him.  An overly reactive large dog might not fare well.

He is smart and very capable of being trained, which is unusual for a Doxie!  Training would teach him to relax too.

He hasn’t had any accidents in the house, but he will mark where other dogs have peed before. He uses pee pads if that's his only option. He has been left alone in one room all day and he was fine.  He sleeps in a crate at night next to a bed and is perfectly happy.

Fudge is up to date on shots, neutered, and micro chipped.

For more information on Fudge, feel free to email me at [email protected] or call 661 618-7308.

An approved application is required for Fudge’s adoption.  We would prefer Fudge being adopted in the southern CA area since he’s not crazy about long car rides.

The tax-deductible adoption donation for Fudge is $350.
