When I received the phone call asking me to take Doug (Dolly’s previous name), I was told she was a dapple dachshund. That’s what the lady was told when she purchased her as a puppy. As you can clearly see, Dolly is not a Dachshund. We are not sure if Dolly is a Rat Terrier or a Chihuahua mix. What we do know is Dolly is grossly obese. The reason the owner asked me to take Dolly (Doug) was she was afraid her weight was going to kill her and they were not able to control her weight. A long transport took place to get Dolly from Central CA to Southern CA. And now she is here and she is on a diet and an exercise program to get her to a healthy weight. Possibly 12 to 15 lbs might be ideal for her.
Dolly went to the vet for blood work which came back normal. We thought her weight might be a thyroid issue but her blood work was all good. Dolly got her shots which she hadn’t had since she was a puppy, a dental which she badly needed and meds to get her through her dental. So now it’s time to get serious about getting the weight off Dolly.
Dolly is a bit stand offish at first since she just left the only home she’s ever known since she was a puppy. She’s a bit shy but never aggressive. She gets along well with other dogs, and once she feels comfortable with her person, will sit with you on the couch.
Dolly’s new home will have to be serious about keeping the weight off her so she never gets to this dangerous weight again. Nice long walks for exercise, no table scraps, a good quality low calorie dog food, and not too many treats. Currently Dolly is not able to go on long walks due to her weight, but baby steps will get her there. Once Dolly is at a healthy weight and in a new home, we know she is going to be an awesome dog for her new home.
Dolly is spayed, and up to date on shots. She will be microchipped prior to adoption.
If you think you could be Dolly’s new home, please fill out an application to adopt her. For more information on Dolly, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 661 943-4888.
The tax deductible adoption donation for Dolly is $200
